History with Durham University
Today, Year 6 were visited by John Roxburgh from Durham University who delivered a fun and fascinating session based on the local history of Greenside. John provided the children with maps dating from the 1800s and early 1900s and asked them to identify similarities and differences between them. The children then developed some theories as to why the changes came about. Next, they were given extracts from the 1911 census featuring families living in Greenside to investigate and create a family tree from. Finally, John gave the children some artefacts to study. They observed the artefacts and made suggestions as to what they were made from and what they were used for.
The children had a great morning and learnt lots of interesting information about the history of Greenside.
