School Uniform

The school uniform is worn by all pupils in school (Nursery to Year 6) and parents are asked to support our uniform policy.

Main Uniform

  • Yellow polo shirt (logo optional)
  • Royal blue sweatshirt or cardigan (logo optional)
  • Grey or black trousers, dress, skirt or shorts
  • Blue and white gingham dress (optional in warmer weather)
  • Plain black sensible shoes (no trainers or sandals)
  • No jewellery
  • No nail varnish or make-up

PE Uniform (Reception – Year 6)

  • White polo shirt (logo optional)
  • Plain black jogging bottoms or leggings
  • Blue or black shorts (warmer weather)
  • Trainers, preferably black, or plimsols for younger children
  • PE outer top (provided by school and kept in school)

We ask that PE uniform is brought to school in a small drawstring bag so it can be kept in lockers. Those children who do not leave their PE uniform in school should bring it every day.

Staff will advise when Reception children need a PE uniform. This is not at the start of the school year. Nursery children do not need a PE uniform.

Uniform items do not need to have the school logo on them. Uniform items in school colours are available from most supermarket chains.

The Ryton Hub hosts the Gateshead West Uniform Scheme (Gateshead West Uniform Scheme) where many items of uniform and other clothing and school supplies are available for a donation. We collect spare clothing across the year on their behalf of this scheme and can support parents to access items. At times across the year we also have items of pre-loved uniform available.

Uniform items bearing the school logo can be ordered from SALTO, Prudhoe (www.saltouk.com). Additional information about ordering uniform from this company can be obtained from the school office if needed.

Please ensure all articles of clothing, particularly jumpers, cardigans and school coats, are clearly labelled with your child’s name. This is the only way we can ensure lost items of clothing are returned. Please also encourage your child to look after their own belongings. Your support with this will be very much appreciated.

Jewellery is not allowed in school. The only exception to this is a watch but this must be removed for PE. Children will be asked to remove any jewellery worn during the school day.

It is strongly recommended that mobile phones and other communication devices are left at home. However, if brought into school, these should be switched off and handed to the class teacher at the beginning of the day.

The school does not accept responsibility for loss, theft or damage to any personal items of property, clothing or jewellery.

If parents wish to have their child’s ears pierced, it is suggested that this is done at the beginning of the summer holidays, so that by the time the autumn terms starts, studs may be removed. Earrings represent a considerable accident risk both in physical education and play and children should not wear them in school. For the child’s own health and safety, they may not be able to participate in the full range of activities offered within a PE, playtime or school session if they are wearing earrings (or spacers) and they will be asked to remove them if worn during the school day. If the child is unable to remove their own earrings, alternative activities may need to be arranged for the child and parents will be contacted to ensure that earrings are not worn in future. School staff cannot accept responsibility for the removal of earrings. Earrings must also be removed for swimming lessons according to swimming pool policy.
