Year 1 Beamish

In history this term, Year 1 have been learning about what life was like for their grandparents and great grandparents. As part of this topic, we visited the new 1950s village at Beamish Museum.

First we spent some time visiting the police house and semi-detached houses from Sunderland. We got to see what domestic life was like for a constable and sergeant during the 1950s. The children were shocked to find the television only had two channels! Then we arrived at the 1950s town and spent some time exploring Elizabeth's hairdressers, John's cafe and the new cinema. We then visited No.2 Front Street which was the home of Norman Cornish, a famous artist from Spennymoor. We enjoyed handling artefacts and spotting the household objects we had been looking at in school.

A great day was had by all!
