Year 2 Visit to Newcastle Castle

Earlier this term, Year 2 visited Newcastle Castle as part of their history learning linked to their topic, ‘Medieval Castles of England‘.

We travelled there by coach and spent the day finding out about the history of the castle and exploring the castle keep. We visited The Royal Chapel, The Great Hall and heard about how these were used in the past. We were all very interested in visiting a jail cell for prisoners as well as seeing a toilet from hundreds of years ago. In the afternoon, the children took part in a workshop to learn about some of the different jobs that people did in Castles and what kind of people lived in them. The children really enjoyed a roleplaying activity where they took on different roles in a medieval feast, from King to jester to act out the ceremonies of a typical formal feast.
